You had a son first! It’s good for your wife and your family to have a son first, traditions being what they are and all. It seems that your wife had a rough time of it. However, I am glad to know both the mother and the baby are all right.

あなた方は最初に息子を持ちました。奥さんにとっても家族にとっても最初に息子さんを持つのは良い事ですね、というのも伝統ではみなそうなのだから。奥さんは大変だったらしいね。でも、お母さんも赤ちゃん両方とも元気だということをきいてうれしいよ。
僕は出産祝いに何か送りたいんだ、それで君と洋子が気に入ってくれればいいと思っています。
